My plane arrives at noon. I'm getting ready to head out the door from here in a few minutes. I should be calling for directions because I'm lost about 1:30. I can't wait!

Let me toss in an idea that Jon just brought up privately. I really wish we would've thought of it sooner, but if any of you have books you wish to get signed at this gathering, PM me immediately for an address to FedEx your book and so that I know to expect it. You may ship it tomorrow for a Friday or Saturday delivery in time for Cory et-al on Sunday!

Thanks Jon!

...Jon's book arrives :)

Today was too incredible to describe! It started early with arrival of Neil Hoppe and Ralph & Karen Powell. Rob was already outside with about half the car hoods up by the time coffee was brewed. I was glad I relocated the toolbox to the patio to save so much running to the garage ;-) After pre-flighting four Mustangs (which included TJ being assigned the Powell's hot new '08) we departed for a distant "greasy spoon" for brunch.

On the way out, Mike "somethingspecial" called to say he was on duty, so we made for a great rendezvous in Grass Valley where we were shall we say....."processed" ;-) Timing was perfect and it was so nice to see Mike!!

...We proceeded 10-miles to Colfax along Hwy. 174 to fantastic food (courtesy of the Powells:) then enjoyed some freeway "formation" to Auburn where we hoped to meet up with Steve "rvrtash" who was due about that time... We missed, and he arrived at the big house shortly after our return. Before too much beer flowed, we received a call from Cory "hookedtrout" who had arrived in Nevada City! Everyone wanted to greet him at once, so out we went with four more Mustangs to escort Cory, Trina and Jace. Upon return and on-going Special kinship, we enjoyed a fantastic dinner prepared by Renee "Ponygal" and Carol Kinyon.

Stay tuned for more as "clubpro" "CougarCJ" and "Sarge" join us for the official breakfast and book signing surrounded by GT/CS's galore on Sunday!

Glad it got there safe... but you guys are nuts. You must know your Fedex lady well. Mine would give a VERY strange look if I asked her to pose with a package she just delivered.

Excellent photos with more on the way I'm sure. Sounds like it was a blast. I know many of us wish we could have been there. Next time...next time.

..... Next time...next time.

There has got to be a "next time"!
:)

...After an incredible Saturday night meeting Cory, Trina, Jace and Steve Wick, the stage was set for an outstanding Sunday, though activities had to be early as Rob needed to catch his plane for home at 3 pm from Sacramento.

We were up at 7am preparing the eggs, bacon, potatoes, fruit, coffee, coffee, coffee and coffee with assist from Carol, Renee and Deana. Karen and Ralph Powell arrived at 9:00 in the pretty '08 followed by Ron Moore, Roy Christiansen and Robert Murphy in two more GT/CSs (totaling eleven). Rob Campbell and Steve Wick were already (you guessed it) raising hoods and working on cars...

Scott Benhcke arrived soon after I got the call that Cory and family were waiting down the road for escort. I jumped in the truck to guide them in as Renee was putting the bacon on the BBQ (lined with foil). When we returned, breakfast was almost ready, but when we went to get the bacon - grease dumped onto the burners and the whole unit became a raging inferno!

I closed the lid thinking that would smother it, but no.... Flaming grease dropped onto the propane tanks below and threatened our immediate vaporization! It took me plowing through four cars to remember where I put that damned foam extinguisher (the same type I gave Donna for power steering preservation) before returning to find Renee with the lid up, flames six feet in all directions, hurriedly trying to transfer contents into a pan (that was also flaming) with literally every extremity in the middle of the fire! (I hope somebody got pictures ;-) I then foamed the grille & doused the flames as curious neighbors scratched their heads from a safe distance.

She did it!.....'Literally "saved our bacon" and the breakfast was perfect!

On the day before, Rob had given her the nickname; "Fast lane Foster" after trying to keep up with her on the way up from the airport.

Today, she became "Flaming Foster" - in forever redemption of "Fainting Foster" after her inauguration into GT/CS ownership almost a year ago;-)

Too cool!... and by 11:00, it was time to honor Cory, Trina and Jace before the official book signing!

In addition to making the most classy name badges for everyone in attendance, Ralph & Karen Powell presented Cory with a beautiful hand-made trophy they lovingly crafted with a die-cast model of the vary car that was our backdrop (and like Cory's own) with a standing applause on a red-carpet stage complete with "director's" chair and patriotic round table. Very kind words were also spoken of Jon, our webmaster and the HUGE appreciation of everyone in our family who gave us this magical and dynamic weekend!

Book signing by everyone present then began in earnest.......

....After autographs, everyone set about exchanging stories, looking at cars, enjoying refreshments and each other's company before saying "goodbye" to Rob who I took to the airport. The day progressed to a wonderful tri-tip dinner (once the BBQ was restored) and nobody wanted the day to end!

....Scott Foote and Chad Godeke brought over their working steam tractor as well as an original cond. 1951 Ford pickup and cherry '65 Ford to compliment the day and the eleven Specials. It was hard to tell which "smoked" more - the tractor or that "bacon" ordeal.....

All in all - a truly incredible experience that I can't fully describe!

I can honestly say this was one of the highlights of my life. What an absolute great family we belong to, this little California Special Way Of Life. What a fantastic time we had, there wasn't a single moment that wasn't just perfect.

Bouncing from group to group visiting, learning, and growing friendships, watching those that know the inner workings of the car manipulate them into perfection, the enjoyment of the food so perfectly prepared through a lot hard work that we so appreciated, the endless trips down to the pond to repair and untangle and set up the fishing pole that Jace and Chris were using to catch the little bluegill in the pond, watching the little steam tractor as it was brought to life and huffed and puffed up and down the driveway, the time sitting back and just taking it all in from distance, each little escort to and from the O'Brien mansion on the hill (it is a maze that I thought I would never understand however I did make it out with the assistance of backtrack on my GPS the last night), walking around and simply admiring all the wonderful cars and the small differences that each one presents time and time again, the appreciation that we shared as we signed each others books, and finally all the hugs and kisses and tears that were shed as the event came to an end and we had to part ways.

Though I have expressed this through a few words I can still say that words can not express the sincere appreciation that our family has for each and every one of you that made this family get together possible. We had an absolutely fantastic time and will be forever greatfull.

Thanks to everyone that participated and especially to those that traveled and those that prepared the meals, name tags and the wonderful trophy and those that are probably still cleaning up as I type this post.

Well, Friday started for me by picking up Rob Campbell at the Sacramento Airport. A quick stop at my place to pick up the GT/CS, and then it was off to the store for a few things for Friday night’s dinner.

No sooner did we get to Tim’s place, when Rob recruited TJ O’Brien to help make “a few tweaks” on my California Special. He wanted to adjust the “play” out of the steering wheel and center it. Didn’t take too long before he had Tim under the hood too. I want to thank you guys for doing this!! It handles much better now :)

Later that evening, Ralph and Karen Powell showed up, and we proceeded to have a great spaghetti dinner. YUMMY!!! They presented us all with these wonderful badges that they made for the occasion. Thank you both so much!!!

Fast forward to Saturday morning (early!!), and Rob Campbell and Neil Hoppe (franklinair) are already working to adjust my carburetor which was only putting out about 1/3 the power it should. Boy can I feel the difference now when I step on it!!! Again, thank you guys for doing this for me :) Rob was acting like a kid in a candy store, and I felt very privileged that it was my Special that he picked to “play” with.

After that, we jumped into a few Specials and headed out for breakfast after meeting up with Mike Jewell (somethingspecial). If you ever find yourself in the Colfax, Ca area, I would highly recommend TJ’s Roadhouse!! Great food, and lots of it!!! Steve (rvrtrash) showed up at the house just after we got home, and no sooner did all the introductions get finished, when Cory called to say he hade made it into Grass Valley and needed directions. We took a fleet out to meet him and bring him back to the house where we proceeded to have another great feast! Tim, you did a great job on the BBQ – as for me, oh well... :-\

(hey, check out the party crashers!!)

Sunday morning rolls around; the rest of the “family” arrives. We guide Cory and Trina back in, and then it’s time for breakfast…but not until a bit of “drama” as you most likely read in Tim’s post earlier. Okay, I admit it, I tried to burn Tim’s house down – but certainly not on purpose!! I guess I am going to throw out that recipe for Bacon Flambé. Too “hot” for me!!!

Then we proceeded with the book signing ceremony, staged on the red carpet that we arranged for the occasion. There was not a dry eye in the place after the Powell’s presented Cory with the “California Special Way of Life” trophy. I made up some bookmarks for everyone, and I have a few left over. If anybody wants one, just PM me…

Everyone got their books signed and we then let the day take us where it would. Too bad Rob had to leave early, but it was wonderful having him there while we did!! Another great meal, and plenty of talk brought the weekend to an end with lots of hugs & kisses and promises to get together again soon. We really are one big “family” and it was great to be able to get to know some of our brothers & sisters!!! I already miss everyone :’-(

Renee, I love how you captioned many of your photos to include names.

Cory, the "clean up" was no problem. 'Getting enough sleep to function at work today was! I was pretty useless today with my mind totally consumed with the weekend. My gosh!! Your book, The Powells, The long day's travel & expense that you, Neil, Steve, Rob, Scott "CougarCJ", Ralph and Karen endured to be here.... and yet, you were all as though we had been good friends & neighbors for many years!! Add Ron, Roy and Robert with their cars & added know-how... and the Powell's again who offered keys of their '08 to TJ (for the duration) on the first night! (He will be very difficult to live with over the next few months;-). Watching Rob Neil and Steve literally step off the plane and into the garage as well as Scott and Chad with their steam tractor & nostalgic enthusiasm! Then there was Renee, Frances and Carol who prepared all that delicious food....Non-stop! It was Renee who also found the red carpet, special table & chairs, made the complimentary (laminated) bookmarks as well as doing MOST of the classy preparation and organization.

This was a book signing, family reunion, car show, Mustang symposium, picnic, street cruise and 48-hour party all rolled into one!

What was most wonderful is that we didn't really plan anything! It simply happened as it was meant to, including the timely phone call and visit with Mike "somethingspecial"!

I will be forever indebted and grateful for the opportunity to be a part of such a fine group! As Cory said..... It was perfect!... and I couldn't have imagined it being any better!

Thank you all!!
