I'm thinking of making the trek westward for the Galpin/Knotts Berry weekend. I can get a decent airfare, reserving early (ATL-LAX), but need some guidance as far as directions, schedules, etc. once in L.A. Not familiar with the city at all. Bob Teets told me he's staying at the Knott's Berry Hotel. Who all is staying there also? Sounds like it would be convenient to Knott's, but what about the other gathering on Saturday? Not looking forward to renting a car (rumor here in the east is that there are some rather STRANGE drivers in CA !!) Any info/guidance would be appreciated.

Hi Niel,

If you stay in Buena Park and don't want to rent a car, I can give you a ride to Galpin. I'd pass right by your hotel on my way.

Hey Neil,
Let me know your flight plans and maybe I can escort you around. What day/time does your flight arrive/depart etc.
I'm a po'fessional driver around these here parts.
The hotel is very close to the festivities at Knott's but not close to Galpin. I won't be staying at the Hotel but let me know what your plans are and I can help with whatever I can for you.

Yeah, I'm fast and Joe's handsome!

OR......you get to chose between an old Mustang or a new one!

Well...you can get picked up code three style also. That's WAY fast!

Welcome to SoCAL!

Hey Neil!

We have this "GT/CS cab company" down in L.A., and all you have to do is wave one down....LOL!! (thanks, Donna & Joe!).

Here is some help:

First, here is a map of Los Angeles. Galpin is where the (north part) 405 meets Roscoe....that is, look just south of where 118 crosses 405. Just north of where the 101 crosses 405. Look at "Mission Hills", or at least, San Fernando Valley.

http://travel.yahoo.com/p-map-191501884-map_of_los_angeles_ca-i

Anaheim and Buena Park (Knott's) is about 40 miles south--south-east of Galpin, in Orange County.

1. See if you can get a direct flight to Orange Co. Airport (John Wayne Airport):
http://www.ocair.com/
This airport is closer to Disneyland/Knott's than LAX.

2. Rental Cars--(if you need one now..)
http://www.ocair.com/groundtransport/rentalcars.htm

3. Knott's!!!
http://themeparks.about.com/cs/usparks/a/blkbfmainx.htm

I hope this helps!

Someone call a cab?

Hi Neil, We are staying at the Knotts hotel as well and we have lots of room for you to get to Galpin. We would love to have you ride with us. In any event, we'll see you there. Mike and Robinette.

Neil,
I've driven in LA/Pasadena area and it's not so bad. But then again I'm from NY. NY drivers aren't much better.

For that matter I've driven in Charlotte, NC a number of times and well ... no piece of cake either

Sounds like you have a lot of choices in any case.

Piece of cake......Neil, I'm gonna try to pick you up at the airport so you won't need to stress out about our traffic. PM me your flight plans and we'll work something out.

Neil....you might want to bring TWO jackets, because one of them's gonna be all torn up from people grabbing you to get into THEIR GT/CS to take you somewhere....LOL!!

Donna's a real sweetheart.
Will she be standing there holding a GT/CS sign for you to see at the airport?

(oh, the stories we'll get to tell after that weekend...)

So..ahem!...Mr. Blue, just what are you implying??? Huh??? Fess up!! :)

Driving in different parts of the US is like jumping into different dance halls with the music on..

There is a different tempo, pacing, and distance for each area. Los Angeles is like a controlled disaster. It's like falling down a hill, and no one has any brakes. It's either "all stop" for a crash, or it's "all gooooo", not knowing what is ahead, until you have to stop again for another crash.

And then there's the cell phone people that cross the lines on ya...especially when each lane is smaller than it should be. GGRRRRR!!!

But don't let this keep ya's from coming down for a visit. Heck, I only saw ONE truck plow through the concrete median on the 134, fifty feet from me.

Vigilance, lots of horsepower, tight brakes, 4:11 gears, and attitude work pretty well in L.A.

I'm overwhelmed. The G.O.M. (grumpy old man) will be returning to the Golden State Friday (4-18), as the true Supreme Allied Commander (aka Peggy) has offered no opposition to my travels! It will be so great to see many of you all again. Really looking forward to Galpin & Knotts Berry shindigs. I'll be there thru Mon or Tues, depending on scheduling. I'll be making my reservations within the next few days, staying at the Knotts hotel and arriving @ the John Wayne airport if scheduling allows (I'll keep you posted on definite schedule)
Again, Many, Many Thanks for the kind offers to chaperone a stranger.

Neil, I met you once...so you're not a stranger...we be family!! Will you catch a shuttle bus to the hotel or do you need to be picked up? If you come into the Ontario airport that is really close to me and my work place.(Could be cheaper flight too) God Bless Peggy again!

I'm really sad to hear about that. Hip replacement is major surgery, and much therapy afterwards. My support goes out to you and your daughter. Keep us posted on how it goes, OK?

We'll be thinking of you, while at the shows in L.A.
