UPDATE

just called Marti and we CAN get the data we are looking for with a Personal Statistical Data Report. All we need are the VIN's and they will fax the results within a few hours. $40 each.

let's get a little feedback on whose cars we will use and how to come up with the money to cover this. About $200-$250 will cover it. We will need a I6, 302, 390 2v and a 428 VIN number

let's make this happen.

Jason, are you forgetting something we spoke about, or have things changed?

428 cj and 390 2v needs

Jason, my 390 2v HCS vin is 8R01X168079 and my 428 CJ HCS vin is 8R01R168056. My Marti Reports state that 1 X code HCS was produced and 9 R codes HCS's were produced. LET'S ROCK AND ROLL with this and see what happens. HICOUNTRY Bob Teets here.

As a note, I came across the statistic that only 43 428CJ coupes were built in the San Jose Plant in 1968 (between April and July). If Bob knows of 9 of them, then that leaves 36 others to sort through. Casey

I think he means that 43 428CJ Mustang coupes were built in San Jose. Some were GT/CSs and some were regular Mustangs.

Arlie, yes, that is what I meant. Sorry for any confusion. Casey

Here is a CJ website. The first San Jose R-code VIN is 8R01R 158074 and the latest is 8R02R 172223.

This site breaks down the nubmers by body or by plant but not by body by plant.

Here is some more info from that site.

1968 R-code coupe with manual transmission: 102
1968 R-code coupe with automatic transmission: 119

Arlie

I have studied that site quite a bit recently with my 428 engine project starting up soon. Going to look at a KR block, crank and rods tomorrow.

What are you going to put the 428 in Jason, knowing you is it going to be maybe a motorcycle frame, looking for all the speed you can squeeze out of that baby Chuck

no motorcycle (but a cool idea) and no Tbird. I am going to build the motor and then find a 68 Mustang of some kind to put it into.

I will either make a 68 1/2 CJ clone, Green Hornet clone or maybe put it into a CS. Have not made up my mind other than I want a Cobra Jet 428 motor.

Here you go Jason. You have a Mustang and a T-Bird so now you need a Cougar. It looks like some old lady car so it's the perfect sleeper, especially with your painted wheel idea!

I was thinking about a Cougar instead of the tbird. The Tbird won....for now.
