1968 Ford Mustang High Country Special

For consignment, possibly one of the rarest Mustangs we've had gracing our halls in the form of a 1968 High Country Special example. Complete with it's deluxe Marti Report, a 2004 AACA National Sr win and 2010 AACA Grand National Senior win, and its been meticulously restored down to the nut and bolt level, perfect paint and no stones left unturned. So look, enjoy and breathe it in, and if you so desire "pony" up the dough and take her home!!

Exterior
Believe it or not this car was found in a barn in PA! It was taken home and the process began. Totally taken apart and stripped, blasted and it had no rust so no body paste is within these panels so they are all certified original. They were then painted un assembled, so no tape marks are present. Reassembled and put back together in a whole so we not have the concours example before your eyes. All paint, chrome, stripes, and badges are really pristine and ready to show and if you want..go! Candy Apple Red with white stickers, 14-inch styled steel wheels, the 68 rear with the intake vents on the beginning of the quarters and slightly spoilered rear and a bar of tail lights similar to the cobra of the day. This car is just fabulous and is dressed to the nines on the OEM and original factory exterior.

Interior
I'm seeing red, red, red, and its all perfectly aligned and preserved for the door panels which have a hint of chromed edging. Seats are low back buckets with tuck and roll inserts and smooth bolsters and appear as showroom. A rear bench, which I don't think anyone has ever sat in, is in the back. Our consignor states this is the ONLY one from this year to have a center console so I'll have to take their word for it. The steering wheel and dash with its dual squared off eyebrows for the red vinyl padded toppers and black dash front are purely 68 Mustang design. T he sweep gauges in front of the driver are in the form of 2 large and 3 small above the lower recessed panel which houses the temperature controls, a radio, a few pulls and the glovebox on the passengers side. Floors are red carpeting which is being protected by rubber pony embossed floor mats. A red tight headliner is above. Again I'll say just perfect condition.

Drivetrain
So under the hood I get a change from red red, and see some black and blue.. black for the bay and supports and blue for the block and air cleaner covering. It's all like brand new and even better in its 302ci V8 configuration. It has a 4-barrel carb on top, and a C4 3-speed automatic on back. The rear axle weighs in at 8 inches and 3.00 gears. Supple hoses and all showroom fer sur.

Undercarriage
If you purchase this car you will also need to purchase a larger mirror to show off the underside. It's that good, with nary any road dirt or rust, (EGAD don't even say that four this car!). Independent coil springs for the front and leaf springs for the back and drum braking all around.

Drive-Ability
Even though I sat in the back my experience was all excellent. All working functions save for the backup lights which did not illuminate, but all else was working just perfectly. A pleasure to be inside.

There have been nearly 6000 cars coming through these doors, and honestly very few have lived up to the standard this car has set. It is very rare, it is very well done, and it is just a piece of Ford motoring history. I'd snap this one up quickly as it's not going to be long before it gets away. Like a pack of monkeys storming through the jungle the low hanging bananas are going to get taken. Oh We are ...the Old One.

I know this car. It belonged to Tom ??? in PA, near Carlisle. It is close to if not Concourse level. Tom passed away a couple of years ago and the car went to his son. Tom & his wife visited us here in NC several years ago. His car IS impressive. ( a J code HCS) Well worth the $69K.
