This is in my February issue of Hemmings Muscle Machines
Auction Action, New England Auto Auction
Ford 1968 Mustang California Special
Condition: restored # 4
Top Bid: none (not sold)
Avg. selling price $8,500--------------------- Reserve: Undisclosed
You don't see California Specials too often. So it's a shame that this one was in such rough shape, with acres of orange peel, along with chipped headlamp bezels. The car seemed structurally sound, but it was tough to tell with mile-thick undercoating. Foam showed through split seams in the oddly scuffed upholstery. The C-4 Cruise-O-Matic transmission wasn't played up well by the dull, scraped console for the automatic's shifter, and the interior generally left an impression of having been used and abused. The bidders were obviously worried, as no one even indicated interest.
