Wow... I just noticed this message you had sent me almost a year ago. I don't check these messages much anymore or really not too active on this board anymore. Pretty cool that my car was next to yours on the line.
My 8k tach is the most interesting option on my car. No other nice options besides deluxe seatbelts, tinted windows, P/S & P/B. You're the first person that has eve asked me about the knee pad. My dash had some cracks in it around that area when I bought it. I am thinking that somebody possibly added an A/C unit that hung on the dash. It would have been a major project to remove the dash to repair the cracks so i just added the knee pad. I have always wondered how they would determine which cars got a 6k tach and who got the 8k... was it determined by the option packages. My friend has a '68 Shelby GT350 with a 6k tach... you would think the Shelby would get a 8k.
