COMMENTS: This GT/CS was purchased new by my wife from Bob Wondries Ford in Alhambra, California. We have the original paper work and other receipts showing what was done to the car over the years. In 1988 this GT/CS was replaced with another car and was then garaged. In 1990 the GT/CS was given a complete make-over; new top, paint, complete interior and new suspension. It was then kept in the garage. When my son's got interested in cars we decided to show it. After being garaged and just started every now and then it need some more attention. A close friend of mine, who is a Mustang mechanic nut, was given the GT/CS to get it road ready. This GT/CS was ready to roll. Photo's were taken and submitted for the first GT/CS calendar which was featured for the month of March 2005. In May 2005 Sacramento Mustang had their annual car show. We decided to show it there. It got a lot of attention, questions asked and pictures taken. No trophy awarded, but that is ok. Having Mr. GT
/CS himself, Paul Newitt cruise by and giving you accolades on your GT/CS trumps any trophy awarded. Note; Our GT/CS was listed in Paul's first recognition guide. |

COMMENTS: Found car for sale on this site in Summer '03 in MD, drove home to NJ. I've driven it 4,000 miles since purchase: 2,200 mile round trip in Apr. '04 to Nashville for 40th anniv event, then 1,800 miles in May '05 in New England 1000 vintage car rally. Car has been very reliable, with only routine maintenance/repairs needed. Car is one of the most heavily optioned GT/CS's I've seen, with all options factory original as per Marti Report. It's fun having one of the few GT/CS's in NJ! |

COMMENTS:
We bought our car in February 2004. It is originally from Texas. I believe we are the third owners. The interior had once been changed from the original saddle brown to black. When I received it, it was in the process of being restored and the new saddle brown interior was still in boxes in the trunk. The taillight panel had been painted argent by a former owner. The console had been taken out and the 200 6 cylinder motor was replaced with a 1965 289 4V engine that runs great. It has a 4 speed toploader transmission. The carb, intake and high performance cam are all Edelbrock. The car has a little rust and is in need of restoration, but it is a 10 footer and still looks great. People are always excited to see it. It will be our project for years to come.

COMMENTS:
Back in 68, I was a youngster with a 65 289 Mustang coupe when I saw a new black on red CT-CS. Thirty seven years later, I am looking at cars on EBay and find this beauty. I love my California Special and I give thanks to Norm Kramer, Portland Oregon, for his nice restoration of this car. Per EBay listing: Correct colors & options. V8, C4 auto, power steering, floor console. Body media blasted and disassembled before paint. Powertrain modified to enhance the muscle car image (& the fun!) Original 289 block has been replaced with a .030 over 302 of similar vintage, mild cam, bigger valves, 4bbl carb, electronic ignition and headers w/ oversize exhaust. Transmission rebuilt at the same time. Looks, runs, drives SUPER!! Receipts for everything, photos to document the work done, the GT/California Special Recognition Guide & Owner's Manual (P. Newitt, 1988) where the car is listed, and a letter from Ford Archives authenticating the car are included. This car turns heads
(young and old) everywhere it goes! Not many of these still around, don't let this one get away!!…………….I didn't J
You might recognize Charlie the painter, from "American Hot Rod" and "Overhaulin", standing by my GT-CS.

COMMENTS:
This car was Built on 20 June 1968 in San Jose California. It was shipped on 22 June 1968 bound for Johnny Harper Motors out of Wheat Ridge, CO. To the best of my knowledge, it was purchased by Mr. Ethan R. Smith of Denver, CO on 18 July 1968. It belonged to Mr. Smith for many years and was purchased by Mr. James Coburn of Cookesville, TN. Mr. Coburn a collector of California Specials sold of many of his collection in order to buy a 1968 Shelby Mustang. I purchased to car on 19 March 2005. I have always wanted a GT/CS car since the late 70's. I never saw a real GT/CS until 1999 here in Jacksonville, NC there was one on a car lot forsale. I went by several times and stopped to look at it one day and it was gone. I had my hopes of getting one until I stumbled upon a HCS for sale via the internet. I researched the car and found it to be exactly what I was looking for. This website has a wealth of information and wish more HCS info would be published here.

COMMENTS:
This was my first car and I still have it. Mom bought it for me in 1974 for $800.00 and she kept the pink slip until I paid her back. It has been stolen and recovered, had the rear tire shot out, been doused with a caustic substance in my old carport, been hit broadside on Christmas Eve of 1974, forced off the freeway and went through a chain link fence and driven cross country twice. All the time being my daily driver. I was finally able to do a poor girl's restoration on it right in the driveway and drove a Pinto (don't tell anyone I did that) in the meantime. I did a lot of the work myself. I have an original Mustang pedal car that is painted and striped to match the big car. I tell people that my car had a baby and I don't know who the father is but I suspect it was a '65 convertible. She and I have been through a LOT...kind of a Thelma and Louise thing. I think it's a keeper.
It has 195,000 miles on it and I bought it in Tucson, Az. I was the third owner and I got it when it was 6 years old, I was 18.Oooooohhhhhh mercy me I just turned 50.
It was also in a three page spread in Mustang Illustrated in May 1998. Also various other background pictures at Knott's Berry Farm Fabulous Fords Forever shows.I also took the first trophy there for the most outstanding female Mustang owner in 1998.

COMMENTS:
The original owner bought this car in Arizona and drove it to Long Island, NY. He sold it to the 2nd owner also in Long Island. It sat in the owner's garage for 2 years because his wife didn't like not having power steering. The 3rd owner (also from Long Island area) purchased the car around 1985. I am the 4th owner and purchased the car in 2005. I bought it from a co-workers Father. I found out about it by accident. I always wanted a Fastback but the rarity and history of these cars has won me over. It is continuing it's life as a New Yorker.
The car was originally Lime Gold with Ivy Gold interior. The 1st or 2nd owner changed interior to black, the 3rd owner changed exterior to Acapulco Blue.
The car is far from perfect and one day I hope to strip it down, fix any old body repairs and give it a new coat of paint. For now all of the brakes and springs have been redone.
We also installed a Flaming River tilt wheel. Big thanks go out to my brother-in-law for his assistance, hard work and expertise in getting the car in tip-top shape. It drives great for a 37 year old car and raises a lot of questions at local cruises and around town already.
