Scott,
Why do you torture me like that?? Indeed, the Hurricane was the main reason for success of the battle of Britain, but the Spitfire was more sexy and thus, received more credit. That's a beautiful specimen!

I have a scheme... what say I ask them to prove it is still up to exceeding 300mph?... as it is a single seater - nah, it won't work will it?

Seriously, I am too excited - I have always been in fascinated by both superchars and v12s since seeing the roulettes (RAAF aero team) shown up in a low level drag race by a mustang in their jets. Sorry but I don't know what sort of jets. It was the first time I realised that old stuff could be better than new stuff!

...Well, here are some "cousins" exceeding 400 mph with V12's :-)

Cool

I spent several years in the UK and saw the Hurricane flying several times at RAF Mildenhall- a serious screamer along with the Red Arrows demo team in their Avro's.
I will always have P-38's in my blood however. Once you go for a ride in one of those bad boys, it's all over with!

Did you get a ride in a P-38?

Chino~

The air museam at Chino has a P-38 with two seats. they removed a lot of comm gear from behind the pilot and wedged in a SMALL seat. When my brother recieved his Phd- we all chipped in so he could get a ride in it. He hasn't stopped smiling since that day...
:)
My Dad was 5th AF, 475th P-38 in the south pacific in WWII. Was in the flyover of the battleship Might Mo on the day Japan surrendered.

That's very cool!

I've heard of a few '38's modified with the second seat you describe. How neat, your dad's history as well. I've always loved spending time with WWII pilot types and hearing their stories. One of my good friends flew P-38s and P-51s with the 9th AF in support of the Normandy invasion. I did the following artwork to comemmorate him.

A bit off topic but somewhat related...

I just am about finished reading the historical novel "Pearl Harbor - A Novel of Dec 8th" (it was Dec 8th in Japan when the attack @Pearl occurred) by Newt Gingrich. Its really history in novel form and describes the events leading up to Japan's attack on the US and, more interesting, why Japan felt compelled to attack the US. I highly recommend it - its one of those books you can hardly put down.

What made me think of this is that in the book there is a description of a Hawker Hurricane taking down a German Heinkel bomber over London during the Blitz...

The world stands aside to let anyone pass who knows where he is going.

My Garage
HUGE WOW!

My Dad was a 50-caliber machine gun instructor in Norman Oklahoma during WWII. P-38's would fly over the base from time to time and my Dad said the sound they made was unreal! As I remember they had ? Turbo or Supercharged Allison engines?

I would give my right something to ride in a P-38 one time!!!

Neil sent me a video on the "ice queen" from Greenland. I bought my Dad the book about her before he passed away a couple years ago.

I am a P-38 junkie and would just like to see one or touch it!

Too bad but the hurricane was passed in at $2.4million AUD.

Trip was great fun. My buddy's plan of buying an Alfa 147 was thwarted by "Motor Contol Fallure" on the dash after about 15mins of purchasing the car - it just shut down with no power. The owner was good enough to give him a refund until the problem solved. Turned out to be a $3 valve that caused the error. My buddy is still buying the car! Brave lad.

Thanks for the update Scott. 'Looks like it was a lot of fun!

Just be careful when it comes to having multiple passions. If you're like me, you may find yourself waking up to some pretty goofy ideas ;-)
