Bullit chase remake on TV show Alcatraz ...

Don't know if you caught the season finale of the new TV series Alcatraz, but they did a recreated version of the car chase from the Steve McQueen movie Bullitt with a new Mustang and a new Dodge Charger. I especially love the little green VW Beetle that shows up twice in the new version, very similar to the original!

I may have passed my "best before" date, but I haven't reached my "expiry" date!

I saw that too, right down to the VW. I showed my kids the original then played the remake to them. They just shook their heads. Good Catch.

Cool beans !

Too bad they didn't have the sense to use a modern GT/CS...

...Curious, who can tell me "why the double clutching" on the original movie Mustang? Was that dubbed from something else, or was McQueen actually shifting that way?

I just googled this and found the following...

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/mustang-bullitt.htm

Excerpt:
"The sounds emitted by the Mustang suggest a lot of double-clutching -- something that would not have been needed with a '68 Ford transmission. McQueen confirmed that the sweet racket of the car's engine and transmission were overdubbed recordings of a Ford GT40 driven at full tilt."

Awesome James, Thanks!
Renee had given me the DVD and I've watched it numerous times lately. Last weekend, I took out the 'S' 4-spd and tried to duplicate that shift! 'Got it sounding pretty good, but it sure didn't get me up the hill any faster... ;-) Thanks for the confirming research!

Now my next question:
How many (layered) hubcaps does a '68 Charger have? I counted upwards of nine or so departing that car and never saw a naked rim! ;-))

Tim, here's a suggestion that might help you with your Bullitt double-clutching/driving...

I recorded Bullitt "Shifting Gears" (off of Youtube) as an mp3 and sometimes play it when I'm driving - makes the car go faster and handle better
