Help! Pictures of 68 GT/CS tail light wiring needed!

I am removing the crappy dynocore sequential tail light wiring kit from my 68 GT/CS but need some good pictures of the factory harnesses as mine are long gone. Also, if anyone has a lead on some factory wiring for the tail lights that would be great. I purchased a new 68 tail light harness from CJ pony parts, from the front fuse box to the trunk, but i know it has to be modified for the GT/CS but not sure how.

Pete at the corralsnake.com has both harness and they are very good. We have used them on several of our cars.

Marty, thanks for the tip. I checked out that website and found the tail light harness pigtails. Since the GT/CS doesn't have the sequential tail lights and those pigtails plug into the dynamite sticks, do they have to be spliced into the trunk/tail light wiring harness?

That six pin connector should plug directly in to the GTCS tail light harness.
If I get a chance I get a picture of the wiring in one of our cars.

Very helpful thanks so much Steve. My problem I guess is the previous owner cut off the factory tail light harness to install the dynacorn sequential kit. I'm guessing that I am going to have to buy a whole new tail light wiring harness. The guy from coral mustang said he sells the GT/CS tail light wiring harness for $200. Have you seen this harness before? Do you have any pictures of the main wiring harness in the trunk that the pigtails plug into? On a side note Steve, I believe I may have met you once before at the Mustang round up in Bellevue WA a few years back and maybe spoken on the phone to you once before. I have the royal maroon J code with the white stripe kit.

Yep, that was me. Still have a bunch of parts for sale.
I can't give you a pic of the harness portion. I sold my car, so don't have a reference any more. If you could find a matching plug with a pigtail, you could always solder it back on to the harness, but soldering 50 year old wire can be difficult sometimes. I still prefer soldering to crimp connectors, and also like to use waterproof heat shrink tubing. If you're not in a hurry, and on a budget, I can see if I have any plugs laying around, and next time I'm in Seattle, give you a hand, but new wire is a much better way to go. I haven't seen the Coral Snake wiring harness, but heard good things about the company. There's also a guy that does wiring for 71-3 called Midlife, but not sure if he's on this site, or does '68.

We have used the tail light harness and it is very good. As Steve said you could solder on a new connector if you can find one. I do not think there are any 6 pin connectors like that used in a 67-68 Mustang, but may be in a Cougar. You might check with West coast Classic Cougar.

here is a picture of the coral snake pig tails after I installed them to the housings. I took the extra step to actually solder a separate ground wire to the sockets and then run the ground back inside the wrapping. yes I had to unwrap them and then used new wrapping . I'm very happy with the results the brake lights shine nice and bright and I don't need to worry as much about getting rear ended. the only drawback was the sockets don't fit tightly into the housing and they give you a ring that slides over the socket to help keep it snug.

Those are awesome pictures retroman! I will be ordering the tail light wiring harness and pigtails from coral snake for sure. I will post pictures during the installation for future reference to this issue. Thanks all, great GT/CS community!

I just got the new trunk wiring harness from coral snake installed but I am lost in the correct routing for the wiring harness. Can someone take some pictures of the correct routing of the harness in the trunk?

If you feel under the lip of the trunk opening, you should find some little bent over tabs that will hold the wiring right under the lip side to side across the back of the car inside the trunk.. As you get to the driver side you can also find the same little tabs along the left trunk opening lip that will hold it up just under the lip.

It will feed through the gas filler support area up high along the same level as the underside of the lip. A ground point is usually on the right side of the gas filler support structure about half way down.

Hope this helps a bit.

Thanks for the info Rob. There is also one plastic mounting clip on the harness in the trunk, so you know where that clip attaches

Side bar question Rob, you wouldn't happen to own a huge old red quad cab truck and a mustang shop in gig harbor Washington?
