I have used the halogens in many cars with no problems as long as it has a healthy headlight switch.

Hmmm.... define "healthy" I've had used originals, clean unused OEMs, and new repros go all "flashy" with some halogens in the GTCS...

Had the OEM switch in our 68 fastback and drove 38,000 mile never flashed once. My son's 67 started flashing so we replaced it with a auto parts store unit and it never flashed again.
IMHO I think corroded terminals and bad connections causing higher resistance can also cause breaker frailer. I never have but you may want to compare the wattage.
