Side Scoops

I purchased a set from Rebel Mustang, they have them from time to time on ebay for $185 per pair plus shipping. They are exact reproductions of the originals in weight, design and construction. They do need to be shaped by a good body man or woman to be politically correct. You will not be disappointed.

My scoops

I too contacted the folks in Colorado. They had no scoops, but I did purchase from Rebel Mustang. I have not installed them yet, but they look good. They have a few "rough" spots, but a little sanding should work out the bumps. They are heavy and solid. Looks like you also have to drill and install the bolt on the inside (there is plenty of glass to do so).

By the way, I have one original scoop and a new set of rebel scoops. Should I keep the original on or go with the new "matching" set?

If the original fits well I'd vote to keep it on. You know the old saying; if it ain't broke don't fix it. An original, undamaged scoop would be worth some decent money on eBay but, unless you are doing your own bodywork, it would probably cost more to trim and fit the new scoop than you could get on eBay.

Side Scoops

I had the same situation, one original scoop and bought the Rebel scoops and used the one that I needed. I'll keep the other one just in case. My body guy didn't charge anything for shaping the scoop so it would fit. He has been restoring Shelbys for years and said even the originals don't fit perfect. He stated the Rebel scoops are the best reproductions he has ever seen. You do have to drill for the mounting bolt, but that is simple to do.

Remember that when you're sanding these scoops, to not remove the "witness line", which is the casting "line" from where the front of the intake meets the scoop body. This is an original feature. Scoops for the Shelby OR GT/CS had different intakes. Shelby--open, CS, closed. To do this, A.O. Smith switched the intake mold part (with the same scoop body mold part). By doing this, it left a casting mark. Perhaps someone can post a photo of what this looks like.

If your repro scoop doesn't have this, you might want to cleverly make it look that way. BTW-- '67 Side sccops are different than '68.

I have determined that my GT/CS has one original scoop and one repo because of the witness line.
Doug has a good close up pic of a scoop with the witness line in his gallery. It looks like the line is only at the top of the scoop, but it might be the angle of the pic.

I've had pretty good luck with Tony Branda in Altoona, PA. Mustangs Unlimited used to be pretty good.....but they've slipped up the past few years.

I decide that is not worth to try to make the scoop from mustangunlimited because is to much work and it may not look right at the end. my original scoop is broken and my body shop will repaired instead.
