...Was an awsome success amidst a sea of CSs! 17 GT/CSs, one clone, three Mach Is, a '66 coup and a Cobra packed the Jewell's beautiful front yard culminating in not just the largest - but the most festive gathering of proud owners and cars. The weather, food and fellowship couldn't have been better!

Truly something(special) for everyone!...

....whether you were seeking concourse information or just wanted a relaxing afternoon with GOOD friends. Upon arrival and parking of cars - people walked, talked and and parused among some of the most beautiful cars while sharing stories, comparing notes and having an absolute blast! Nobody wanted the day to end.

Paul Newitt made the rounds taking pictures and sharing data on the cars while Mike & Robinette (and family) assured smooth execution and orderly movement of our beautiful machines...

Like I said...

...Nobody wanted the day to end and Mike & Robinette whole-heartedly thanked all who attended - making this gathering so "special". Primarily Paul Newitt, daughters Marissa and Amber, long distance travellers Diesel Donna and Joe De LoSantos as well as the Chef. Everyone received as warm a "farewell" as welcome with anticipation of an even larger gathering next year!

It was our personal pleasure...

...to host "Diesel Donna" and Tim Davis for the weekend where she arrived safely after a near disaster south of Fresno! Her power steering pressure hose burst during a fuel stop spraying fluid onto the manifold resulting in a nasty fire! A nearby Pepsi truckdriver rushed to her aid w/ an extinguisher and the only loss was use of the unit for the remainder of the trip.

Gathering parts along the way - Donna and Tim were able to make running repairs here in Grass Valley before heading home after the event.

I'm here to tell you that she (and Tim) are the most delightful house guests anyone could ever hope for! As much as we love her here - ya' ought to meet her in person! Thank you D.D. ....Tim - you're an incredible mechanic and of great compliment! What a team!

Great get together. There couldn't have been a nicer group of folks to hang out with. My 15 year old son Josh and I really had a great time. I think the best part for him was "backing out" the pristine trailered in white w/ blue stripes CS while being in the driver's seat. He had a smile on his face the rest of the day.
Wow, what a day. Thanks again to Mike and Robinette and their girls for being perfect hosts...and the cook.

It was nice to put faces to the names.

-Jeff

Thanks just doesn't say enough.

What a great day and what a great group of people. I am very proud to be a GT/CS owner and after Saturday I am even more proud to be part of the GT/CS family. I have been a member of car clubs for over 30 years, but this is by far the best club that I have been a member of. The more that I am around Paul Newitt the more I respect him and appreciate all that he has done and is still doing for this "special" car and those of us that proudly own them.

Mike and Robinette you went over the top Saturday. The day couldn't have been more perfect and your hospitality was second to none. The food was awesome and no one went away hungry. Thanks just doesn't say enough!

Sincerely,

Ron

WOW!! What a PARTY!!

What an OUTSTANDING party! I still have goosebumps just reading this post.
I cannot thank Mike and Robinette, Amber, and Marissa enough for their attention to detail and making us feel right at home!We couldn't have wanted for anything more! Yes, I brought my bathing suit but there's NO WAY I was gonna be the only one in the pool! I did make use of the hammock though. Phil did an excellent job at the BBQ!
Tim, Frances, Katie and T.J.....wow,incredible hosts!! Your hospitality was over the top! Tim monitored our trip and we kept in touch all the way...then the Car-B-Que happened!! I almost died right there....having a fire at a gas station.....with my CS! :::::::::sigh:::::::: one more drama to the Thelma and Louise car. We got to Grass Valley and Tim and T.J. met us on the road and led us into their place and got us all set up. Then Frances, Katie and Glen joined us and they hosted us for Chinese dinner in town. I got to drive one of Tim's CS's..the white one with red stripes and that was so fun! He offered to let me drive his CJ Mach on the way back but after a long drive ( some 530 miles) and a full tummy I was too tired to risk driving a powerful car on a winding country road. However my Tim (Davis) didn't have any problem when asked to drive it!
My heartfelt thanks to Tim D. for always being there for me...I call him McGuyver...he patched up my power steering hose and took the belt off so we could get going. Oh my car was a mess...yellow fire extinguisher residue all over the engine compartment and most of the outside of the car. Tim cleaned it up there (I was still standing there trying to call a NAPA parts store and shaking). Then the next morning before going to the Jewell's place, he used Tim O'B's pressure hose and cleaned off the engine bay and washed the car.
Now the REAL fun begins.....Mike, Robinette,Scott and Tim O'B and T.J. show up and we convoy to the Jewell's. I'm not stupid...I was the last car in the convoy so I could watch that beautiful ribbon of cars winding through the wooded countryside. What a sight!
I had the BEST time ever Saturday and I met the best darn people in the world! It was wonderful to see Paul and Leia again after some 20 years and to meet all the other CS owners and supporters. Joe and Edward...you guys tear me up everytime I see you! You better post YOUR story too! Ch-Ch-Ch- CHIA! (A subtle remark about Joe's beautiful hair in the thread with his 70's picture).
And I don't want to forget to thank all the CS owner's that showed up who haven't been to this site yet...no matter what shape your car was in you showed up and joined the family! Special thanks to Mike for finding a lot of these owners in his own 'special' way!
Jeez, I hope I didn't skip anybody. This was hands down the best get together ever. What a job our hosts did, we couldn't stop talking about it all the way home....the wonderful food, the people and camraderie.....I tell you nobody had an 'attitude' about their car or anyone else's. It was worth every uh.....firey moment!

THE JEWELL'S AND O'BRIEN'S ROCK!!!!!

Hugs all around, oh gosh I'm getting all sappy.
xoxoxoxox, Donna

We just got home from a side trip to Reno and Virginia City, and I have ten rolls of film to have developed, as well as about an hour of video to edit for the new GT/CS book DVD. How do I quickly write about such a great day for the GT/CS?

As everyone there expressed, the BBQ party that Mike and Robinette Jewell put on was a wonderful event. An absolutely beautiful day there for an event like that! I got to meet many great folks that I only knew by name all these years. The CS ownership puzzle together got a big jump in knowing people, and the car(s) they owned.

As cars showed up, the excitement built. Everyone stopped to see who it was, and what their car looked like. Different colors, wheels, and even one with an under-hood blower! As you see in the photos--the cars were parked in two rows, and it was almost dreamlike to walk through the middle. A very rare moment, indeed!! There were slightly modified versions, a few concours, and even one needing a lot of TLC. What was impressive was to see what was what on these cars, and it identified just how different each Mustang was.

The BBQ was excellent! A professional chef/radio DJ was there to tame two roaring fires for BBQ, too. Lots of salads, and then the cakes, which I brought (funny side note--there was a line to photograph the cakes). It was really, really nice ot see everyone, and I was very humbled (and flattered) by the attention and was only too glad to offer some information--if asked. There was a lot for me to discover and to learn for the book, too. At one point, I wondered if Donna would be the official person to photograph next to their GT/CS, as I was constantly seeing her posing here and there.....well, OK, actually twice! This may start a trend throughout the GT/CS world...

The next day--after everyone left, I had the opportunity to photograph Mike's GT/CS, that was up on jackstands, with only the rear end in, and the front suspension in place--without fenders. The 390 was on an engine stand on the side--all to photograph for the book. These photos WILL be a wonderful addition to the book, as the concours detailing on the underside was documented. Then, Mike brought out some Marchal fogs and wiring harnesses for me to document in great detail, too. Many questions that we've asked here were answered in one afternoon. Donna graciously lent her car for some interior shots (and trunklid weatherstrip), and while researching one of Tim's cars, discovered that he had an original (Deluxe Champion Firestone F70-14 whitewall) spare hiding in the trunk.I must have almost 300 photos of everything for the book.

You know how you see those ads on TV, where they say "I didn't know how I looked until I saw this photo, etc"....Gads! Man, I gotta go on a diet...from 225 to about 190! (I'm 6'3"). Well, but Obviously, that wonderful day was no time to start on a diet (and the next day's Casino Buffet at the Atlantis in Reno!!) LOL!!

I'm sure I'll think of more later, but I got this great feeling that we'll see each other soon enough. It's like an extended family now, and we have Mike and Robinette to thank for being the "location catalyst" for making everyone feel so much at home. Car shows are nice, but it takes a wonderful place, and welcoming hosts like them to make something like this happen. Now, I think we need to think about the next event...that is, for 2008 (the 40th year celebration).... One idea was to have a "GT/CS BBQ USA Tour!!"...or something like that. But that's for another time.

My thanks to everyone that attended, and for the graciousness of the Jewells for the use of their home. Who knows what will happen next year?

p.s. See? See? I take every risk to life (AND LIMBS!) to get the best underside photos to you, the CS owner!

Paul Newitt

...That was Al Angulo's car. Mike says it had only four miles added to the OD since complete restoration! Al brought the beautiful Cobra as well...

First of all, welcome, Debra! (I see it's post #2 for you).

Sure--all it takes is someone willing to host a party, or you could just get together at another Mustang show, or even just meet at a restaurant, etc.

Just let us know where it is, and I'm sure folks will respond. That's what's great about having us on this site (thanks again, Jon!). If it's "serious", I can do a mailing to the So. Cal owners, too.

The alternative is to have both the So. Cal., and the No. Cal folks meet somewhere halfway for an even BIGGER meet!

Something to kick around. Who knows what other clubs do? I know that the street rodders have this "down to a science".

Paul N.

I think it's a terrific idea to have a So. Cal get together (of course, we sort of had a get together at the Knott's show) or an "in between" meet. I'm feeling very left out down here. LOL
