A few pics from the GT/CS BBQ.

Not for me. I followed all traffic laws to and from the party. ~500 miles each way.

Ever seen the movie "Vanishing Point"? Was that a white GT/CS, or a Challenger? Or was it just a blur with a black stripe. I don't know how Joe "STUFFED" those HUGE back tires in there.

THE PARTY....

Too awesome to recount in this first post, but it was really great! The big celebration was enhanced by the arrival of Bob Teets and his 428 CJ--HCS.

I took 1.5 hours of video, and a full gig of digital photos--mostly for the book.

Some VERY nice cars this year. I got to meet Don and Frank, and many new people. Some wonderful stories, too. I had a great chat with the Sprinkles, about GT/CS Geneology--through ownership(s).

Mike and Robinette were wonderful hosts, too.

Today (Sunday), Mike and Bob and I did a lot of technical stuff pouring over the 390 and 428 cars in the driveway. Some things I'll need to ask owners about--how it is on their cars.

It was great to see Cal Gal, and Marion, Donna (!!), and Club Pro, and so many others.

And...Joe, you deserve those Lucas Lights...since you're such a great guy.

More to follow-- I'm off to L.A. for a research trip for the GT/CS book this week! Pretty exciting things to tell you later when I get back.

Paul.

BTW--was looking at my notes with Lee Grey (1988), and (DUH!!) found where he said that the cars were built in batches of 250-300 at a time at the factory. Specific "GT/CS" days at the Milpitas plant. You may have a specific build date--but it could vary by two weeks. We now need to identify which build dates were "lumped" together. More on this later.

...And for Casey and others, we saved you some tri-tip and potato salad, and sent it to you via UPS "ground".....you'll LOVE it when it gets there in the 100deg. heat! YUMM!

We thought of you all. Please make it next year!

:p

THIS is what you get from Donna when you first greet her with: "gee, don't I smell burnt power steering fluid coming from your car?"

Note her gesture....as if: "c'mon over here so I can choke you right here on the spot for even suggesting such a thing"!

Paul N.

LOL!

Wow. What a great BBQ. I had a wonderful time. Thanks to Mike and Robinette for all their hard work that went into this gathering. Thanks to the O'Brien family for their hospitality.

It was great meeting so many people and putting faces and personalities to their on line personas.

Donna and Tim met me in Mojave and we drove up together. We stopped in Turlock for lunch. When we pulled in the parking lot Tim noticed a funny sound from my engine compartment. He popped the hood and determined my alternator had just bitten the dust. We left the hood open to cool it off, went inside and had lunch.

When we came back out after our meal, Tim took out the alternator then Donna and I drove the block and a half to a Kragen and picked up a replacement. Tim threw the new one on and we were off again. Thank goodness that was the only problem on the drive.

Donna and her co-pilot led and I followed. It seemed like everyone on the road wanted to get between our cars, no matter how much thay had to cut me off to do it.( the photos show I kept pretty close) Then they would tailgate Donna for the next few miles. One car was so close it looked like she was towing it.

On the way home it continued to happen, by this time we were tired of it and went into combat driving mode. Little did they know between Donna's vast driving experience combined with my protectiveness they would not like the outcome. Just ask Tim or Donna about the white Lexus that felt the wrath in Bakersfield.

Anyway I had a great time. I am resting up for next year.

Still more pics...

...These are some of the preparations right after Don, Donna, Tim and Marion arrived on Friday. In addition to piloting the red 390 car to the party; Don and his son Jason were an absolute joy to have around while giving me non-stop pointers from his vast experience w/ his two big-block cars. Tim Davis was awesome as well. I told him that I was having trouble w/ the charging system and dim headlights on Don's car... He was up at dawn on Saturday plowing through my tool box w/o saying why. 'Next thing I knew, I had nice bright headlights and a charging battery! Fearing the worst, I would've never guessed it was only weak prongs on the regulator connector. And Marion... 'Keeping us up late w/ her "funny criminal" stories to the point we could only listen with our eye's closed ;-)

This is what it's really about for me. Thank you all - Mike and Robinette especially!

Formation fly-by...

...began at 11:30 with a briefing from lead pilot Gary Rudolph who outlined the precise co-ordinances (that played to perfection an hour later) with Gary Guilliat, Steve Wilson and Bob Hobert in Gary Guilliat's hangar at the airport. Miles Bostic rode second-seat w/ Rudolph as a safety observer... They also instructed our camera-ship pilot, Keith Thomasson exactly where to be and when for added safety and getting the best pics.

Some of you may remember those two (loud) vintage warbirds that flew over you before we arrived... That was Ken and TJ Dwelle and their racing AT-6 Texans out on a (speed) test run looking to enhance the BBQ after prepping the planes for racing. They are who I originally requested as a camera ship, but they had already removed the 2nd seats prior to the gathering. Ken called me tonite to ask if we saw them :))

Just a little tidbit from behind the scenes...

Hey Don,

I've never seen anybody move as fast as you did! You beat the 10 seconds by a long shot! :thumb:

Glad to hear that you got home okay. How is the flooding out there? Is it affecting you in any way? I sure hope not!

Fortunately we're not affected by the flooding here in Central Ohio (It's all up in Northern Ohio). The 10 second rule is a nice thing to use every now and then.

Looking forward to meeting everyone again at next years BBQ. I'll be sure to bring the 10 second rule with me again.

Hey Don,

Glad to hear that all that flooding is not affecting you! I was wondering if things were okay at your place. Also, it is good to know that you got home safely, and I look forward to seeing you and Jason again next year! However, I still am not too sure about that 10 second rule. I may just need to pass on it if it comes up next year just like I did this year.
