I can't seem to find this answer in any of my restoration books, catalogs or by searching the site.

Which distributor is correct for the following, single or dual diaphram?

289 w/o Smog
289 w/ Smog
302 w/o Smog
302 w/ Smog

My 302 has the smog and has a dual installed.
My 289 has no smog and an aftermarket distributor I want to change.
(The previous owner did give me the original distributor in the trunk so I'd have to go back and look when I get home.)

Which was factory?
Which would you use now and any reason to use one over the other?

Thanks!

The 302-4V with automatic was the only engine to get a single diaphram advance. Everything else received the dual.

There is a somewhat new book out "Mustang & Ford Small Block V8 1962-1969" by Bob Mannel, this is an excellent book for anyone who owns a car with a small block V8. You can check it out at www.fordsmallblock.com

It is well worth the $35 + $5 s&h.
