1968 Engine tag decipher

this is a stab in the dark, but the first series of numbers might be;

02 = the 2nd day
C = March
68 = year
1 = Shift


sounds good anyway:), the second series is anybodies guess..

Marti, Mike, Neil, Arlie, Scott would have a better idea than I.

Thanks Brett and Rupp for the info...now I know I have matching engine with Marty report matching vin ... Got a minnie woodie here.

Have you checked the engine VIN, behind the intake manifold?

Found my tag and looking for help deciphering...Info as stamped on tag:

02 C 68 1
C K284-J

Thanks, Ed.
First Line-
302 is the engine size. You're missing a '3'.
C is the engine Plant, in this case, Cleveland.
68 is the year - 1968.
1 is the change level.

Second Line-
C is the Month - March.
K284 J is 302-4V Automatic.

Thank you cougar. Mosesatm yea tag shows correct size block. Best find the vin. Other forum states its behind the starter on passenger side? Where can I find it? Behind the intake mfd....Mabye ill get that tag book from marti...

The partial VIN is on top of the block, behind the intake manifold.
The transmission is at the bottom of the photo and the intake is at the top.
