Paul Newitt asked me to post this update on the New Book for him. Mike
----------------------------------------------------------------------

There has been a new development with the production of the book.
Although
the primary part of the book has been completed, there were some
last-minute
changes in the Registry, requiring all of my attention. The Registry
was
compiled from four sources, including hand written notes, emails, and
outside internet registrations that took much more time to compile than
I
expected. New owners, new cars, updates, etc...quite a lot of tedious
work!
The end result is 1,340 cars in the GT/CS Registry! I may not get
everyone's photo in there, but I have cars pictured that have never been
shown anywhere else in print or on line. By the way--Registration is
now
closed for listings placed into the book, including photos (although
registrations will continue to be accepted for ALL years of GT/CSs after
the
book is published). BTW--a BIG thank you for all the (over 60!) photo
CDs I
received for the Registry. There are many BEAUTIFUL cars out there!!!

After months, I finally received photos of the 2007 GT/CS mock up at
Ford
that have never been seen or released anywhere--and I chose to hold the
book
for two weeks to get that into the late model chapter. Certainly, I'd
drawn
the line for the deadline, but I felt that it was well worth the wait.

The content, research and production of this book as you know has been a
rough ride for me. I'm paying insurance on the book as the clock is
ticking
as well--so I have (more of) a vested interest in it's timely
production.
But, the amount of details, content quality and the look of this book
has
always been in response to my appreciation of the owners . I truly,
truly
appreciate all of your support.

But what I feel is more important is to provide you with a book that you
can
use to enjoy and appreciate your GT/CS, restore it, find vintage
performance
parts for it, show it or race it--for many years without omissions or
the
need for updates. Someone has described this book as a "GT/CS
Textbook"!.
I've seen high-end coffee table books on Ferrari, Porsche, etc..and
wanted
to provide you with a book that has the same look--because WE deserve
it! A
book that will respect the personal PRIDE by owning a GT/CS, whether
1968,
2007-09 or 2011 (and there IS a lot of pride of ownership with the GT/CS
out
there!). So, I've taken the liberty of "doing it right", despite the
extra
time it might take. I truly appreciate all of your patience and
understanding. It WILL be worth the wait...

The printer I'm using had bumped up the time they need from four to
eight
weeks. However, there is a production window in December that lowers
the
time to four weeks (a lucky destiny). I'm heading for that print
window, as
I really wanted this book to be out by Christmas! Most likely, it will
be
out in mid January. In the meantime, I'll get the book's DVD ready for
shipping (crossing fingers) first for those who pre-ordered, by
Christmas.

If anyone has further questions or concerns, you can email me through my
own
website: paul@ pmndesigns.com

Thank you for your support!! (and a BIG thank you to Jon Hanna for
providing
registry data that helped push the number well over 1,000!)

Paul.

Any word on if this will still happen before Christmas?

Received snail mail from PMN on the status of the book. Key points (in case some people didn't receive the mailing)...

"The best estimate on delivery is sometime in February."

"The book's DVD will have to mailed as a separate item, that will also need to be approved. My priority is getting the book to you first, then the DVD."

Thanks for posting that update p51. Not being a SAAC forum member I was wondering the other day about the status and here it is. Hoping to get my two prepaid copies in the near future.

Thanks again

THE BOOK WILL BE IN MY HANDS ON APRIL 8TH!!! YEA!!!

I just sent the proof to the printer, and it's a "GO" from here on out. I've been quite busy getting everything in place and polished.
The Ford review went very well--and I thank the folks at FordBrandLicensing for their help.

The printer is very professional, too, and their work is top notch. This is going to be a very beautiful book that you'll be proud to own (and show off!)!

I'll be mailing letters to everyone on my mailing list with the details and info for those who reserved books-and those yet to buy a book... With upcoming reviews in major car magazines, if your GT/CS is listed in my registry, you'll want this book in your collection ASAP! This WILL be the only edition for a long time (if ever again), and the only one that will include the Registry (of 1,300 cars--22 pages!!).

Mustang (and Shelby) book collectors will snap this book up quickly.
Also--Just got a great review to appear in the next Shelby American!

A side note--I got the production numbers for the 2011 GT/CS from Ford and it's under 4K, (less than the '68 production of 4,118--the 2011 will be a collectible) It's all in the book.

Reserved/Pre-ordered books will be mailed out the week of April 10th.

More as it develops.

Paul.

the 2011 will be a collectible
... hmmm.... debatable. The prices of prior year CS's and other "specail issues" are no bonanza to those who bought them. Maybe in 30 years if you put it in a time capsule, but I'd bet a CD at fixed interest over the term would do better as an "investment". Love the cars, but the reality is not many make money in the long run... buy it if you like it...

P.S. A book signing at Galpin Ford (in Los Angeles) has been approved for sometime in May. Email me, or write to my P.O. Box if you're interested in attending. Our 40th show in 2009 was a real blast!-and the parking lot at GAS (www.galpinautosports.com) was completely full!!

Excerpt from post from PMN on the SAAC forum site thread...

"I just got a confirmation from the printer in Canada today that I'll have books by this Friday. I will begin shipment of books by the middle of next week (after April 14th), after I return from the Ford show in L.A. (Knott's). I also have the metal tags that will number each book; 1 to 2,000."

Hi all! I was in contact w/Paul recently re the upcoming event at GAS. Trying to see if I can at least make it to one CS gathering this year, it's about 30mi away so kinda local and no excuse not to make it. Anyhow in his reply he asked if I could post the following shipping update on the new book:

------------
Hello to everyone waiting for my book to arrive in your mailbox...
A semi truck delivered 6,000 lbs of books to me last Wednesday (13th), and
I've been frantically mailing books since. The priority books were to the
magazines for review, and then the contributors. As of today (Fri) those
have been sent out.
On Monday, I (literally) do the heavy lifting and begin sending books to
those who reserved them first. I bought special boxes to send them in, and
they are being sent via different ways, depending on the quantity reserved.
Those who reserved a copy (or more) should get their books in a week or two.
My resources are limited to ship books out, but I'm working hard to get them
out. I also have to number and sign each book. This takes some time to do.
I know that you'll just love this book, and feel it was well worth the wait.
Thank you to all of you that have supported me. I feel that this book is a
big turning point for the ownership of the GT/CS; both original and late
model!
As a side note...I'm about to have a review of the book on an automotive
magazine website--that gets well over a million hits a month (If your GT/CS
is in this registry edition, you might want to order one ASAP).
More as it happens. Things are really happening here, now that the book is
out!!
-Paul M. Newitt
p.s. a copy was sent to the Ford Motor Company Archives in Dearborn.
Every car (and owner's name) in the Registry--in my book-- will be noted for
posterity in Ford's Archive.
Another copy is now on file at the Petersen Automotive Museum Archive, in
downtown Los Angeles.
