Stripe Kit

I'm getting ready to order a stripe kit for my almost restored GT/CS. My question is, has anyone had a bad experience ordering a stripe kit or can anyone recommend a good vendor. Also I have been debating whether I should add the hood stripes or not. In the past I know someone posted a diagram showing the proper placement/measurements for the hood stripes. If anyone has the diagram can you please post it or email it to me.

Thank You,
Carlos

Carlos, you need Steve Goehring in California for your stripe kit. Evening number is 559-875-8898. I believe they are $85.00 and you will find them correct and fresh, as they are made to order. Recently, two of the other guys on this site (Paul and Brian) bought a kit from Steve and he still sends them to you to look over and then you send him the payment. Do it! Bob T.

Bob,
Do you know if he sells the trunk stripe by itself? Mine is incorrectly placed and I would like to change it...
Thanks,
Robert

Robert, I think he will be easy to work with you for your needs. He understands these cars( has owned a 390 Cal Spec for years and his car is in Paul's '96 book. Bob

just talked to Steve about sending me just the trunk lid stripe (previous owner put it on too low). Really nice guy, wish more people in the world were like him. He is having another kit made and will throw mine into the order and send to me when complete. Like you guys said he is mailing to me and said to pay him when I get it.

thanks for the tip.

I do not live in that area, however, I did put our stripe kit on. It is not that hard to do. Just in case you want to try it, here is my recommendations.

First, get the instructions from Paul's book. It tells you exactly how the stripe goes on and measurements.

Next, clean the area very well. Use a good masking tape (painter type - green) to get a straight line. If you are putting on the side stripes, I used a chaulk line to get the line straight, then added the green tape over chaulk line.

Get a spray bottle of soap water and spray onto surface with a generous amount. Peel the backing of the stripe and ensuring that the surface is wet, put on the stripe. Make sure you plenty of overlap around doors and fenders to tuck into. If the surface is wet enough with soapy water, you will be able to move the stripe around and into position.

Once there use something like a body putty spreader to start working out the bubbles. Then, slowly peal off the outside tape. The only thing to be real careful here is to make sure the thin stripes don't move as you peel outsdie tape off. Move slowly. You have plenty of time. Use the spreader to continually work out bubbles and make sure the stripe is sticking to the car. If the stripe is not sticking, it is probably to wet. Wait just a second and try again. The soap and water will eventally allow the stripe to stick very well.

Lastly, continue to work out bubbles with spreader.

Hope this helps.

Paul

I finally got my car painted and I was wondering if anyone might have the specs/measurements for the placement of the stripe kit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,
Carlos
