I am looking at a 1968 GT/CS. It will sell quickly and I need to find out if it is a true California Special. The reports from Marti will take to long. The VIN is 8R01C143560. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dallas Buyer,
With only the VIN #, it is difficult to say...the numbers make it a canidate for a CS but that is about all you can get from the VIN. You can call Marti and he will fax you the report for an additional fee. I called him around 1100am and had the info in my hands by 100pm. If you don't want to spend the money, there are a few things you can look for:
1) start with the grille, does it have the Marchal light supports in it, if there are Lucas lights on it now, the wiring should run through the hole in the middle of the supports. If you do not know what the supports look like I have atttached a pic.
2) Look at the trunk lid underside, the underside should look smooth, it was stamped into form, it should NOT look like hand layed fiberglass.
3) Look on the passenger side tail light wiring harness, there should be a parts number tag, it will be purple in color and have the #'s C8ZZ-14405-A, this harness is unique to the CS, the lights should not have a sequencer on the left (driver) side like the Shelby's, CS rear lights are not sequenced. Wire harness pic also attached

That is a few of the unique parts, that still does not make it foolproof, they only way is to call Marti or if you can get the actual paperwork from the first owner. I hope this helps you. Keep us informed on what the outcome is.
Doug
