Why you should watch "Mad Men" on AMC

This might seem a little out of context, but if you missed season one of "Mad Men" on AMC (cable), you missed a lot.

This show is about the people in a New York advertising agency, in 1960.

Besides the great acting and direction, what it tells is the corporate world in the 1960's. Although the GT/CS was not until 1968, if you watch this show, you'll get a feel for how ideas and corporate thinking worked at places like Ford, or J. Walter Thompson (Ford's ad agency) back then.

You will see how personalities can affect the outcome, or the promotion of a product...and how they researched these products to come up with ad campaigns.

It's a view into the world that existed back when the GT/CS was born, and it sets a stage for knowing just how cars like this are created (or killed) on the whim of an exec.

This is a little bit like the stories that Lee Grey told me about the corporate world in Los Angeles back in 1967-68. How Ford execs got to go to Hollywood parties, and how Fords ended up in the hands of actors and studio heads...

Well worth a look...

It's on Sundays at 10PM on AMC (starts this Sunday). ...as they say..."check your local listings"...
