Some railroad history...

...rolled past here today as the U.P. #844 made it's way through Donner Pass enroute to all points central California! Although overhauled numerous times, this locomotive has never been retired from service. It was complete with 1940's vintage passenger train and heritage railroad painted diesels used for dynamic braking. Stops include Roseville, Sacramento, Oakland, and Oroville before returning east through the Feather River Canyon in early May. A real testament to the mechanical genius of our greatest generation!

Great Photos! How did you manage all the angles and is it possible to book a berth?

Yes Scott, it is possible to book a trip as this train routinely travels the Union Pacific system to special events. Here is the schedule:

We went up into the mountains, then "chased" it down the hill to three different locations to get the angles. Known RR crossings were packed with people, so we had to do some back roads... Rhonda, I believe this train traverses your area from time to time.
