View Full Version : How would you like your GT/CS Decal?

08/02/2003, 12:07 AM
I'm finally (!) about to design the GT?CS Decal for the Registry, and I would like some input as to how you would like it. I know I've asked this before, but there is one thing on my mind....

Should I still make it say "celebrating 35 years 1968-2003", OR should it be a more generic, non-dated decal for registry members? Gold with black lettering & round--just like the old ones??

You see, 2003 is about over, and a decal with "35 yrs." on it will be dated in no time. What do you think??

I'll put the ( updated) production number, etc., like the old ones, too.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Part of the $$ will go to the SHELBY children's heart fund (via SAAC).

Paul.

Paul,
I think the old style looks great. I actually never thought about the decal saying "35th Ann" but it would date it and a generic one would be a better seller after this year. Although the "35th Ann" decal would be a collectors item as time passed.

My windshield still sports your original decal. I would say that if you plan on continuing this tradition and eventually making a 40th anniversary I wouldn't hesitate making this one for the 35th. We could always replace the 35th with the 40th when the time comes. Either way I think it will be great and I will get a couple one for the car and one for a keepsake.

As a side note you should see my check for the 96 registry soon and thanks for taking the time to make the books I thoroughly enjoyed the first and I'm sure this one will even be be better.

Would you be willing to upload a picture of the two designs you have had in the past? The 35th year anniversary, and the generic one.

I would be willing to offer you lots of good ideas...but I've never seen the decal before!

I vote with Tom, I like the design of the old one; I like the generic version as opposed to the 35th Anniv.

I like the old decal as well. It's classic just like our cars.

I have to admit, I'm a very greedy person - I want both!! ;D I love the original decal and I hope you do have more of those made. Could the 35th anniversary decal be something in addition to the registry decal? Maybe like a half moon shape that goes below the registry decal or a simple banner type decal? That way we could add or change to the 40th, 50th etc as we all grow old(er) together. ;)

Paul, my vote is for the original style and color with the revised production update. I think that the style suites the 1968 era. Dave

Paul, I can understand how you're itching to make a new design, but I also have to agree that the original is hard to beat.

You guys convinced me....I'll bring back the original round-gold & black design, with an updated production number, and I'll add the "half-moon" stating "35 years Of Making It Happen-1968-2003"; which will be attached at the bottom. Owners can either leave it on, or cut it off, and have just the round decal.

Sooo....I'll get on it right away.

Thanks so much for your ideas and comments--!!!

HOW ABOUT DESIGNING TWO. ONE WITH THE 35TH ANNIVERSARY AND ONE REGULAR. I WOULD BUY BOTH FOR MY GT/CS.

Except the HCS isn't part of the GT/CS registry. The HCS registry is with Bob Teets. AFAIK, there isn't a registry decal for the HCS's, but it would be cool to have one. The problem is there aren't many HCS owners around as the cars can be harder to identify. Especially after the first 2 years get repainted different colors and the badges get removed by uneducated owners. I guess it would be worth looking into, if there's enough HCS owners wanting to get some HCS Reg decals designed.

Scott (66 HCS),
The 68 HCS is actually a part of the GT/CS registry since it is a sister to the CS. Both the original and second addition of the registry are full of HCS's. You are right that Bob Teets is the holder of the HCS registry, especially for the 66 & 67 HCS but both Paul and Bob have the 68 HCS's in there registries.

I agree that they are hard to ID and it is unfortunate that owners change the color because I for one love the orginal unique colors. Maybe someone in the forum will make a HCS decal, or you could always use the 68 side scoop decal and place it on the window.

Yes, a HCS decal would be cool but mine is a '66, which is not a sister to the CS. Neither is the '67. The '68 decal won't work because it has "'68" on the bottom. I'm thinking that a HCS exclusive decal would be cool. I'm not trying to cause any problems or exclude the CS's, not at all, just that I think it would be cool for the '66-'67 HCS's because our cars, other than the name, really have nothing in common with the 68's. I'm not saying the '68 HCS's shouldn't be included in the CS registry, but that the '66-'67 HCS is unique to the '68. That and there are so few of us that it'd be nice to have our own decal. Solidarity man!!! ;)

I guess I'm seeing it from a different direction. You wouldn't put the CS's in the HCS registry, right? So I'm just saying that there ought to be a HCS decal for those of us that don't fit in the CS registry. Am I being to petty about this? Geez I need to lay off the Darvocet in the evenings. ;D

Scott,
no I don't think you are being petty, I agree with you, and appologize for my oversite that you own a 66 HCS, that the 68 decal would not fit your car. My comments on a registry was pointed mainly at the 68 and I do agree that having a registry for just the HCS, especially the 66 & 67, would be a great way to recognize these unique cars, like I said before I love the special colors that were available for the HCS's.
